It may sound like a holiday from hell to some, but Hong Kong people love to travel not just with their children but with their parents in tow. The latter are often the ones paying for the holiday.
And we will be seeing more of these “multigenerational trips” in the coming year, according to the 2025 travel report by international travel platform Booking.com.
“Over half of the respondents are discussing it and actually going on these trips,” says Regina Chan, Booking.com’s area manager for Taiwan and Hong Kong.
“It’s common to see Hong Kong families – sometimes spanning three generations – travelling together. I often see it when my colleagues and I travel for business as well.”
Booking.com’s global survey, conducted in July and August 2024, gathered responses from around 28,000 participants across 33 countries and territories, all planning to travel for leisure or business in the next 12 to 24 months. Of these, 1,004 respondents were from Hong Kong.
While the survey confirmed that multigenerational travel has become a widespread global trend following the pandemic, Hong Kong travellers stand out as some of the most enthusiastic supporters. This is largely due to the local culture, where extended families often live together.
