President Donald Trump is expected to land in Memphis on Monday to discuss the Memphis Safe Task Force.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — President Donald Trump will touch down in Memphis on Monday to highlight the efforts of the Memphis Safe Task Force.
White House officials confirmed that the president would be visiting the city last week to discuss the federal task force.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, federal and state officials are working together successfully to remove criminals from the streets and make Memphis safe again,” White House Regional Press Secretary Liz Houston stated.
This is not Trump’s first visit to the Memphis area. In 2018, he gave a speech at a rally at the Landers Center in Southaven, Mississippi, to show support for Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith.
News of Trump’s visit has drawn mixed reactions from people across Shelby County and reignited debates about the Memphis Safe Task Force. On Friday, Memphis Mayor Paul Young said that he will ensure that the Trump Administration “understands the resources Memphis needs to thrive long term.”
“I will continue to advocate for Memphis and for every member of our community,” Young stated.
ABC24 will provide updates on Trump’s visit throughout the day.
