Healthy Exercise and Lifestyle ProgramS (HELPS) now accepting applications

Wake Forest’s Healthy Exercise and Lifestyle ProgramS (HELPS) is now accepting applications for the 2026 spring semester’s Heart Health program.

The Heart Health Program (HHP) is a 12-week program offered at no cost to full-time, permanent Wake Forest University employees. The program is designed to support individuals who want to make heart-healthy lifestyle changes but are unsure where to begin. HHP is a professionally supervised program that combines structured exercise, nutritional guidance and educational components to promote cardiovascular health. Our goal is to help you develop sustainable, longterm, healthy lifestyle changes!

Applications are now being accepted.

Weekly group sessions will be held in person on Wednesdays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. starting February 4th.

Program highlights:

  • Baseline and follow-up cardiovascular disease risk measurements (blood pressure, lipid collection, body composition analysis, etc).
  • Entry physical activity levels are evaluated. This information is used to determine and define the amount of physical activity you need to foster a healthy and active lifestyle.
  • Entry dietary intake is assessed through computer-analyzed food records.  Specific calorie, nutrient and food group changes are identified.
  • Entry body composition (including bone density measures). This will be assessed through a DXA scan.
  • Optional supervised exercise sessions at our conveniently located exercise facility at the Health & Exercise Science Clinical Research Center.
  • Weekly small group sessions held in person that teach behavioral strategies for the management of heart health.

This program is designed for participants who meet the following criteria:

  • Full-time, permanent Wake Forest University employees
  • Able to attend weekly sessions for 12 weeks
