Aviation and aerospace will be the “twin, reinforcing engines of growth” for Singapore’s economy, according to Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong.
DPM Gan made the remarks during the opening ceremony of the Singapore Airshow 2026 on Monday (2 Feb) where he emphasised how Singapore has built its relevance by connecting people and markets, as per the Straits Times.
Singapore is able to position itself as a leading air hub as well as an advanced manufacturing and engineering base. “These strengths reinforce one another,” Gan was quoted as saying.
Gan revealed that since the last air show, Singapore has attracted more than $750 million in investment commitments across aerospace manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul, as well as aftermarket services. He expects this to create nearly 600 jobs over the next five years.
DPM Gan outlined four key strategies to maintain Singapore’s momentum:
-
Strengthening Partnerships
-
Research, Development and Innovation
-
World-Class Infrastructure
