A new clip from Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 has reignited excitement around Kong’s return, bringing back an iconic location. Ahead of the show’s upcoming premiere on Apple TV, the series revisits Skull Island. It also introduces a monster familiar to fans of the comic but new to live-action audiences.
Skull Island returns in new Monarch Season 2 clip from Apple TV
The latest preview takes viewers back to Skull Island. This is the treacherous home of Kong that audiences first explored in 2017’s Kong: Skull Island. This time, the human characters find themselves navigating the island’s deadly ecosystem, briefly evading leafwings, the pterodactyl-like predators that hunt in the dense forests.
However, the real surprise comes when a larger threat descends upon one of the leafwings. A creature strikes the flying predator with an electrical beam from its mouth before snapping its neck, revealing itself as something entirely new to the live-action MonsterVerse: a psychovulture.
The psychovulture originates from the canon comic book Kingdom Kong. In the comic, a flock of these aggressive creatures famously attacked Kong himself. An alpha male psychovulture was a formidable opponent for the great ape, establishing these creatures as a big threat both on Skull Island and within the Hollow Earth.
Monarch Season 2 will be the first time viewers will see a psychovulture in live-action, complete with its signature electrical attack. This inclusion carries significant weight because Legendary Pictures considers the comics canon. This means the monsters introduced on the page exist within the same continuity as the films and television series.
Moreover, the psychovulture’s appearance opens exciting possibilities for Monarch Season 2 and beyond. The show currently takes place chronologically before the mass Titan awakening in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. As such, introducing lesser-known creatures makes perfect sense for the narrative. These monsters can provide threats appropriate to the timeframe without disrupting the established movie continuity.
