God of War Fans Rally Behind New Kratos Casting

God of War fans rallied behind the new live-action Kratos casting as excitement builds for Prime Video’s upcoming adaptation. Ahead of the show’s production, reactions poured in online as viewers responded to the actor stepping into the role of the iconic Spartan warrior.

God of War fans are loving Kratos’ live-action casting

Prime Video officially cast Ryan Hurst as Kratos in its live-action adaptation of God of War, co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. The series, based on the acclaimed video game franchise, received a two-season order and began pre-production in Vancouver.

Hurst portrayed Thor in God of War Ragnarök and earned a BAFTA Award nomination for the role. His previous involvement with the franchise adds familiarity with its tone and mythology. The show follows the storyline of the last two games, focusing on Kratos and his ten-year-old son, Atreus, as they journey to spread the ashes of Faye, their wife and mother.

Fans have reacted positively to the casting on X (formerly Twitter). One user posted, “Great casting choice!!! Loved his Sons of Anarchy days!” and another wrote, “Perfect match.” A different user commented, “Yeah I can see this. Great choice,” while another added, “I vibe with this.” One user stated, “I ain’t seen absolute cinema like this in a while.”

Frederick E.O. Toye, known for directing Shōgun, The Boys, and Fallout, will direct the first two episodes. Ronald D. Moore will serve as showrunner, executive producer, and writer. Additional executive producers include Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis will act as co-executive producers.

UTA and Piper Kaniecki Marks Management represent Hurst.
