FX has finally enlisted the perfect actresses who will be taking on the roles of Jackie and Caroline Kennedy in Ryan Murphy‘s latest anthology drama American Love Story. The first installment of the spin-off will center around the famous love story of American royalty John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.
“The series depicts the whirlwind courtship and marriage of Kennedy and Bessett. What started out as a beautiful union for the young couple, widely regarded as American royalty, began to fray under the stress of the relentless microscope and navel-gaze of tabloid media,” reads the show’s initial synopsis. “The pressures of their careers and rumored family discord ended with their tragic deaths when his private plane crashed into the ocean on a hazy summer night off the coast of Massachusetts.”
Who is playing Jackie and Caroline Kennedy in American Love Story?
Murphy has once again enlisted long-time collaborator Naomi Watts to portray the role of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. This marks the Oscar nominee’s newest TV project with the Glee creator, after last year’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans series. Besides American Love Story, Watts is also expected to star in Murphy’s upcoming Hulu legal drama All’s Fair with Glenn Close, Sarah Paulson, and Kim Kardashian.
Meanwhile, Grace Gummer has been tapped to play JFK and Jackie Kennedy’s only daughter Caroline Kennedy. Prior to her casting, Gummer previously worked with Murphy on the long-running FX show American Horror Story, where she appeared in ten episodes. The Mr. Robot vet is also expected to star in Murphy’s All’s Fair series.
American Love Story is a scripted anthology series which will tell sweeping true love stories that captured the world’s attention. Watts and Gummer will be joining previously announced cast member Sarah Pidgeon (Tiny Beautiful Things), who has been cast for the leading role of Caroline Bessett. At the moment, the actor who’ll be playing John F. Kennedy Jr. hasn’t been revealed yet. It is executive produced by Murphy, Brad Simpson, Nina Jacobson, D.V. DiVencentis and Connor Hines. The series is a production by FX and 20th Television.
