Family shows for winter announced

The “Cheers!” Series 2023 will be held from December 2023 to February 2024, bringing audiences eight programmes of family entertainment, the Leisure & Cultural Services Department announced today.

Performances by visiting and local groups will span everything from acrobatics to puppetry, music and theatre, offering a heart-warming and fun-filled winter season, the department said.

The series will begin with the Asian premiere of “Passenger”, a stage performance by Canada’s The 7 Fingers, which tells stories of encounters, reunions and goodbyes in the lives of a group of train passengers, through a combination of dance, theatre, music, projections and spectacular acrobatics.

ALFA Theatre Pilsen from the Czech Republic will make its Hong Kong debut with “Zorro”, a traditional Czech marionette show that is accompanied by live band music and vocal performances.

Local productions include the puppet musical “Sweetyland III A Whistle of Dreams” by Make Friends With Puppet and “The Whale in the Ground” by Fantasy Puppet Theatre.

Meanwhile, the animated, dreamlike storytelling of “The Snowman & The Bear” returns to the big screen with a live orchestral accompaniment by the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, while the Hong Kong Oratorio Society will perform classical festive pieces in its “A Christmas of Joy and Peace” concert on Christmas Eve.

Other parent-child shows include the musical “DO RE MI @ SuperBaby” by Jumbo Kids Theatre and the dance education theatre production “Huh? It’s the ant rangers again?!” by Rice Journey Production.

Tickets for the programmes are now available from URBTIX. Package discounts are available.
