Emre Can believes he will be playing football at Borussia Dortmund next season.
Speaking exclusively to Sky Germany, the 31-year-old was asked about his expiring contract, which expires in June, although there is an option to automatically extend the German’s contract beyond 2026.
“I believe we have a great deal of trust in each other,” said Can.
“The club has an enormous amount of trust in me, and I have an enormous amount of trust in the club.
“I’m very happy here. I’ve also had some difficult times, but the club has always stood by me. That’s why, as things stand today, I believe I’ll still be playing football here at Borussia Dortmund next year.
“But in football, you should never make any firm commitments. We’ll see. But as things stand today: Yes, I will also be here next year.”
As reported in October, Borussia Dortmund are open to extending Can’s contract, but the midfielder would have to take a pay cut. As club captain, Can, despite his high-profile mistakes, is of valuable experience to the younger generation and remains a key asset for Niko Kovač.
