Foldables are now attainable, if not quite cheap. The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is down to €800, its lowest price yet. It combines a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with a 6.9” FHD+ 165Hz LTPO OLED internal display and a usable 3.6” cover display (144Hz, both 10-bit). The 12+13MP camera leaves something to be desired, but the 3,800mAh battery offers both 30W wired charging and some wireless (only 5W but still).
The Motorola Razr 40 is inching towards mid-ranger pricing, but isn’t quite there yet. Still, it’s €175 less than its Ultra sibling. This one has the weaker Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, but the 6.9” 144Hz internal display is nearly the same – the tiny cover display is, unfortunately, not. This one has a higher resolution 64MP main camera (and a 13MP ultra wide), plus a slightly larger 4,200mAh battery that keeps the 30W/5W charging capabilities.
The Motorola Moto G84 is configured with 12GB of RAM and has 256GB storage (plus a microSD slot). That’s quite generous for a €250 phone. The Snapdragon 695 is ancient, but the 6.5” 10-bit 120Hz OLED display is quite good and you get a 50MP main camera (1/1.5”, OIS) and 8MP ultra wide. Stereo speakers are on board as is a 3.5mm headphone jack, the 5,000mAh battery does 30W wired-only charging.
You can take a €100 step up from that with the Motorola Edge 40 Neo. The 6.55” OLED display (10-bit FHD+) is bumped up to 144Hz refresh rate and the chipset is swapped out for a Dimensity 7030. The 50MP main (1/1.5”, OIS) and 13MP ultra wide cameras are similar enough, but the 5,000mAh battery gets boosted to 68W fast charging. Also, the Neo has proper IP68 dust and water resistance, compared to IP54 on the G84.
Or you can go €70 down from the G84 and get the Moto G54. The 6.5” 120Hz display on this one is an IPS LCD (FHD+) and the chipset is replaced by a Dimensity 7020. The 50MP main camera has a smaller sensor and there’s no ultra wide. Also, the 5,000mAh battery drops to just 15W maximum charge rate. The G54 still has stereo speakers, 3.5mm jack and a microSD slot, but not the IP rating (it has basic water resistance and that’s that).
Even further down is the Moto G14. This is a cheap 4G-only phone (Unisoc T616), but it does have a decent 6.5” IPS LCD with FHD+ resolution – you see a lot of HD+ displays in this price range. It’s only 60Hz if that matters. The 50MP camera is the same as on the G54 as is the 5,000mAh battery with 15W charging.
Instead of an Edge 40 Neo, you can grab the Poco X6 Pro. It has a beautiful 6.67” display, a 10-bit panel with 1,220 x 2,712px resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. And it is powered by the faster Dimensity 8300 Ultra chipset. The 64MP main camera (OIS) and 8MP ultra wide are nothing special. There are stereo speakers, but no headphone jack or microSD slot. The 5,000mAh battery on this one charges at 67W and there is IP54 dust and water resistance.
The Poco F5 costs exactly the same as the X6 Pro, though with only half the storage (256GB vs. 512GB). Both phones have 12GB of RAM and this one runs on the well-regarded Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chip. This is another 12-bit 120Hz AMOLED panel, but with a lower FHD+ resolution. The camera is the same, as is the 5,00mAh battery with 67W charging.
If you have an extra €100 to spend, the Poco F5 Pro tops the X6 Pro with a QHD+ resolution for the 6.67” display (still 12-bit 120Hz). And it has a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, plus a larger 5,160mAh battery with both 67W wired and 30W wireless charging. The camera is the same, though. Both F5 models have an IP53 rating.
The Nothing Phone (2) is another Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 phone, though it costs more than the Poco. On the plus side, you get a 50MP main with a larger sensor (1/1.56”, OIS) and a 50MP ultra wide. The 6.7” 120Hz display is an LTPO panel, though with only FHD+ resolution. There’s a 4,700mAh battery with 45W wired and 15W wireless charging and Nothing’s trademark LED lights on the back.
The Lenovo Legion Go is powered by the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme APU as the Asus ROG Ally, but this one has a bigger, faster, higher resolution LCD – a 144Hz QHD+ panel. And the game controllers are detachable, Nintendo Switch style.
