HBO Max reveals new Lanterns stills without any green
New images from HBO Max reveal additional looks at characters from the upcoming DC Universe series Lanterns, following the release of a recent DC trailer.
The HBO Max post stated, “Don’t be afraid. #Lanterns is coming this August,” and included four still images from the show. The images circulated online shortly after the trailer highlighted the series’ grounded investigation storyline set in Nebraska. The teaser trailer includes a solo shot of Hal Jordan, while other Green Lantern images do not appear in the footage.
The Lanterns series follows Green Lantern Corps members Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they investigate a death in Nebraska. Kyle Chandler plays Hal Jordan and portrays him as a veteran member of the Corps. Hal trains the newer recruit, John Stewart. Aaron Pierre plays John Stewart, a character DC Comics introduced in the early 1970s.
The trailer shows Hal Jordan and John Stewart’s Lanterns without much Green Lantern action. In the clip, Hal references another member of the Corps by saying, “One of them is a f—ing squirrel.” The line confirms the existence of Ch’p in the DC Universe. In DC Comics, Ch’p comes from the planet H’lven and resembles an Earth squirrel.
The DC Universe also includes Green Lantern characters Guy Gardner and Sinestro. Nathan Fillion plays Guy Gardner. The character previously appeared in Superman as a member of Maxwell Lord’s Justice Gang. Ulrich Thomsen will play Sinestro, who previously mentored Hal Jordan in the Corps.
The Green Lantern Corps is an intergalactic organization that protects sectors of space. Members use power rings created by the Guardians of the Universe. Hal Jordan has served as Earth’s protector within Sector 2814 since his introduction in DC Comics in 1959. John Stewart later became one of the franchise’s prominent heroes in the comics.
