Davante Adams reunites with Aaron Rodgers: Las Vegas Raiders trading wide receiver to New York Jets | NFL News

The Las Vegas Raiders are trading wide receiver Davante Adams to the New York Jets, meaning a blockbuster reunion with four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was first to announce the deal on Tuesday, with the Raiders receiving a conditional third-round draft pick that can yet turn into a second-round pick based on performance.

Adams teams up once again with Rodgers after the pair spent eight years together with the Green Bay Packers, during which time they linked up on 615 completions for 7,517 yards and 68 touchdowns, 5,257 yards and 47 touchdowns of which came between 2018 and 2021.

Four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers produced the fourth Hail Mary touchdown pass of his career as the New York Jets faced the Buffalo Bills.

Adams arrives with the Jets sitting 2-4 in the wake of Monday night’s defeat to the Buffalo Bills having fired head coach Robert Saleh following last week’s defeat to the Minnesota Vikings in London.

The 31-year-old requested a trade away from the Raiders earlier this month after the emergence of a screenshot that appeared to depict head coach Antonio Pierce ‘liking’ an Instagram post reading ‘Don’t be surprised if Davante Adams has already played his last snap with the Raiders’.

Adams has played just three times this season, his best outing coming in a Week Two victory against the Baltimore Ravens as he made nine catches for 110 yards and a touchdown.

He arrived in the NFL as a second-round pick out of Fresno State in 2014 before spending his first eight seasons with the Packers, asserting himself as Rodgers’ favourite target before being traded to the Raiders in 2022 as he reunited with college quarterback Derek Carr.

Adams had posted four successive 1,000-yard campaigns and five in his last six, while leading the league in touchdown catches in both 2020 and 2022. No player in the NFL has more receiving yards than Adams since his maiden 1,000-yard season in 2018.

Speaking on Inside the Huddle, Neil Reynolds, Phoebe Schecter and Gregg Rosenthal share their views on the sacking of former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh.

He bolsters an offense led by star third-year receiver Garrett Wilson, who has made 41 catches for 399 yards and three touchdowns through six games this season. Adams will meanwhile also link back up with former Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard, who has 26 receptions for 354 yards and a team-high five touchdowns in 2024 – including a stunning Hail Mary reception against the Bills in Week Six.

New York’s pursuit of Adams reiterates their Championship ambitions behind Rodgers after his first year with the team in 2023 had been brought to a script-ripping halt when he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury just four plays into his debut.

Week Seven begins on Thursday night when the New Orleans Saints (2-4) meet the Denver Broncos (3-3), live on Sky Sports NFL from 1.15am in the early hours of Friday.

Sky Sports+ has officially launched and will be integrated into Sky TV, streaming service NOW and the Sky Sports app – giving Sky Sports customers access to over 50 per cent more live sport this year at no extra cost. Stream The new EFL season, Test cricket and more top sport with NOW.
