Dakota Fanning Shuts Down Marvel Rumor but Shares Good News

Dakota Fanning addressed long-running speculation linking her to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), offering a mix of clarity and possibility. While she addressed the speculation, she also suggested she would be open to opportunities in that space.

Dakota Fanning hasn’t been cast for a Marvel role, but would love it

Dakota Fanning has confirmed that she has not been cast in any Marvel Cinematic Universe project, citing an interview with The Direct at the South by Southwest 2026 premiere of The Sun Never Sets. She said, “There hasn’t been, no. But I would be totally open to it.” She added that there had been “no official offer or discussion with Marvel Studios.”

The actress addressed recurring online rumors that suggested she had joined the franchise, including a 2022 report claiming she was cast in an undisclosed role. She explained that she occasionally encounters such speculation on social media and said, “Sometimes I’ll see [rumors] on Instagram. I’m like, I need to call my agent to see what’s going on.”

When asked about potential characters, Fanning stated she had not considered specific roles within Marvel. She said, “I’ve never really thought about it. But I’d be down! I’ll try anything. I’d do anything, if someone would have me.” She has previously appeared in the 2009 film Push as Cassie Holmes, a character with precognitive abilities.

Fanning began her career as a child actor and later transitioned into adult roles across film and television. Her credits include Charlotte’s Web, I Am Sam, War of the Worlds, The Twilight Saga, The Runaways, and The Alienist. Several Marvel actors also started young, including Brie Larson, Robert Downey Jr., and Tom Holland.

Marvel Studios is actively developing its Mutant Saga and plans to introduce new characters while expanding the X-Men storyline in future phases. The studio has not publicly confirmed casting for many upcoming roles. Actress Trinity Jo-Bliss also addressed similar speculation, stating that she has “not been cast as Jubilee.”

No announcements have linked Fanning to Marvel projects to date.
