Hong Kong’s education authorities have expressed serious concerns over viral footage showing underage school students sneaking out to a nightclub after evening room checks during a government-organised exchange tour to mainland China.
Chung Sing Benevolent Society Mrs Aw Boon Haw Secondary School in Tuen Mun confirmed to the Post that several of its students had left the hotel after the room checks, after an online media outlet specialising in education publicised a video of secondary school students boasting about their late-night escapades.
“The Education Bureau is highly concerned about this incident, and contacted the school for follow-up action once we learned of the case,” a bureau spokesman said.
In the video, a narrator tells viewers about grabbing a shared rental bike to “seek out good nightlife” and gaining entry to a nightclub using Photoshopped identity documents.
The clip also shows youngsters, with their faces blurred, as they talk inside a club and ride the shared bike.
“The group could sneak out until around 12am once we ensured there were no more checks. Here we are, looking for electric bikes in different locations. Once we found them, we could go as fast as possible to seek out good nightlife,” the unknown narrator says in the video.
