PEORIA – The Eddie Bauer store situated in The Shoppes at Grand Prairie has shut down.
A “store closed” sign hangs in the windows, and up above, only a faint shadow of the brand’s moniker remains.
The Shoppes at Grand Prairie management did not return multiple Journal Star phone calls or emails regarding future plans for the space.
The fate of the company’s remaining storefronts currently hangs in the balance. Earlier this month, Eddie Bauer LLC voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and entered into a Restructuring Support Agreement with secured lenders.
A press release about the development said the company planned to “conduct liquidation sales at its stores while continuing to pursue an ongoing sale process.” Storefronts in the United States and Canada will continue operating for now, and the company said it may “depart from a full wind down of operations” if there is a sale.
Catalyst Brands CEO Marc Rosen said the company has faced supply chain issues, declining sales and other challenges.
“Over the past year, these challenges have been exacerbated by various headwinds, including increased costs of doing business due to inflation, ongoing tariff uncertainty, and other factors,” Rosen said. “While the leadership team at Catalyst was able to make significant strides in the brand, including rapid improvements in product development and marketing, those changes could not be implemented fast enough to fully address the challenges created over several years.”
Online operations and wholesale will continue, the press release said, as it is handled by a separate LLC. Storefronts outside the US and Canada are also separately operated.
