Claressa Shields wants Savannah Marshall rematch at heavyweight – Shields’ skills ‘like a Picasso masterpiece’ | Boxing News

Claressa Shields is open to a rematch with her great rival Savannah Marshall in the heavyweight division.

Shields, a two-time Olympic gold medallist, defeated Danielle Perkins to become the first undisputed heavyweight world champion in women’s boxing.

It is the third weight class in which Shields has achieved undisputed status.

Shields beat Marshall in London in an undisputed middleweight world title fight and would box the Briton again in her new division.

Shields secured a historic victory as she won the first women’s MMA bout to be held in Saudi Arabia

“We’ve had general discussions over the past several months and have expressed our interest in making the rematch happen,” Dmitry Salita, Shields’ promoter, told Sky Sports.

“The fight against Perkins was a battle of size and strength versus skill and boxing IQ. Claressa’s skills in the ring are like a Picasso masterpiece – timeless, precise, and unmatched.”

Shields won her title fight with Marshall on points. But she dropped Perkins heavily in their final round and Salita says the American would knock Marshall out in a heavyweight contest.

“I believe she will stop Savannah with the power she possesses at heavyweight,” the promoter said.

“Claressa’s drive for legacy is undeniable – moving across multiple weight divisions, taking on the best, and continuously pushing the sport to new heights.

“There is no debate – she is the GWOAT [Greatest Woman of All Time].”

But he insists the rematch should not be on Marshall’s home turf.

Shields sent a chilling message to rival Savannah Marshall saying she would not be able to beat ‘The GWOAT’ in MMA, boxing or ping pong!

“The fight would need to take place in the US or a neutral location,” Salita said.

“Claressa Shields isn’t just one of the greatest boxers of all time – she’s one of the greatest athletes, period. Like Muhammad Ali, she is a symbol of strength and inspiration, fighting for equality inside and outside the ring and inspiring generations with her unprecedented success.

“For years, we’ve discussed the idea of Claressa fighting in Africa or the Middle East – another historic landmark that would further cement her legacy.”
