Saw XI has officially lost its release date.
For the past several weeks, there have been rumors that the eleventh film in the Saw horror franchise, Saw XI, likely wouldn’t make its planned September 26, 2025, release date and could be canceled altogether.
This is due to reports of fights between producers and Lionsgate, though the reason for the disagreements remains unclear at this time.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate has now officially removed Saw XI from its release date calendar. Instead, The Strangers: Chapter 2 will now open in United States theaters on September 26, 2025, in its place.
Will Saw XI ever get released?
All hope may not be lost for Saw, however. While Saw XI, which comes from Kevin Greutert, doesn’t have any release date at this time, Lionsgate shared a statement from Billy the Puppet regarding the future of the franchise, “I’ve seen the rumors. They say it’s Game Over. You all should know me better than that. The game is never over.”
The Strangers: Chapter 2 serves as a sequel to The Strangers: Chapter 1. That movie was released in United States theaters in May 2024 and made $48 million at the global box office off an estimated $8.5 million budget. It was not, however, received well by critics or many fans of the original Strangers movies.
The new trilogy of Strangers movie (Chapter 3 does not yet have a release date) come from director Renny Harlin and star Madelaine Petsch.
“I promise that we’re making The Strangers: Chapter 2 as terrifying as possible, and I can’t wait to show you on Sept. 26,” Petsch said.
Producers Mark Canton and Courtney Solomon added, “Like Strangers fans everywhere, we’re thrilled for Chapter 2 — it’s the kind of film that’ll have audiences watching through their fingers. Bringing it to theaters this Halloween season is perfect, and we can’t wait for everyone to see where the story goes next.”
