Catherine O’Hara‘s loved ones have come together in memory of the acclaimed actress.
A funeral for the “Schitt’s Creek” and “Home Alone” star took place on Saturday, Feb. 14, People reported Feb. 18, citing a representative for O’Hara. The ceremony took place two weeks after her death at 71 years old on Jan. 30 due to a pulmonary embolism.
USA TODAY has reached out to O’Hara’s representatives for comment.
“Road House” actress Kelly Lynch on Feb. 16 shared a photo of the funeral program, which showed a younger photo of O’Hara and the funeral’s venue, a Catholic church in Los Angeles’ Brentwood neighborhood.
O’Hara’s death certificate, which USA TODAY reviewed on Feb. 9, showed that the primary cause of her death was a blood clot that broke loose and traveled to the lungs. However, another contributing cause was rectal cancer, which she’d been living with for months, according to the death certificate.
She’d died at a Santa Monica, California, hospital within hours of the onset of the pulmonary embolism.
The Canadian-born actress, an Emmys darling who picked up a Golden Globe award and two Actor Awards over the course of her career, was fondly remembered by former costars and friends across Hollywood and beyond following her shocking death.
Her onscreen “Schitt’s Creek” son, Dan Levy, called her “extended family before she ever played my family” in his social media tribute. His father, Eugene Levy, honored their 50 years of history by writing, “I cherished our working relationship, but most of all our friendship. And I will miss her.”
Her “Beetlejuice” costar Michael Keaton noted, “She’s been my pretend wife, my pretend nemesis and my real-life, true friend. This one hurts. Man, am I going to miss her.”
O’Hara’s other onscreen son, Macaulay Culkin, penned a touching message that expressed regret about their lost time together. “Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. … I love you. I’ll see you later,” he wrote.
