
Hong Kong police have arrested a 49-year-old bus driver on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death after a collision that killed two people on Lantau Link.
The accident occurred at 11.16pm on Monday when a double-decker Long Win Bus on route E32A heading towards Tung Chung rammed into a stationary taxi on the Tsing Yi section of the highway, according to police.
Firefighters were called to the scene to rescue the 66-year-old taxi driver and his 37-year-old male passenger, who were trapped inside the wreckage.
Both were unconscious when they were rushed to Yan Chai Hospital in Tsuen Wan. Despite showing no visible external injuries, they were later pronounced dead at 12.15am and 12.43am respectively on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a 66-year-old female passenger on the bus sustained minor injuries to her mouth and was treated at Princess Margaret Hospital in Kwai Chung.
The taxi’s front and rear were severely damaged and its back tyres burst upon impact. The front of the Long Win vehicle was also damaged, with its windscreen shattered.
