Bummer: Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold cannot be charged wirelessly with the Pixel Stand

Google announced four new Pixel 9 smartphones about two weeks ago – Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The non-folding Pixels can be charged wirelessly with Google’s Pixel Stand 1 and Pixel Stand 2, but the Pixel 9 Pro Fold cannot.

Google says it is because the “position of the charging coil for Pixel 9 Pro Fold isn’t perfectly centered compared to previous Pixel phones,” and that “might make it difficult for you to charge your phone wirelessly.”

However, Google said the Pixel 9 Pro Fold “supports many other wireless chargers” and “when you use another wireless charger, adjust the position of your phone to get it to charge.” The brand also said, “To confirm if it’s aligned correctly, check the charging indicator on your phone.”

Google shared the Pixl 9 Pro Fold’s diagram (see below) to show the position of the charging coil.

Bummer: Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold cannot be charged wirelessly with the Pixel Stand

With the original Pixel Stand, the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro can be charged wirelessly up to 10W. However, with the Pixel Stand 2, the vanilla Pixel 9 goes up to 15W wirelessly, while the Pro and Pro XL go up to 21W and 23W, respectively.

With no support for Pixel Stand 1 and Stand 2, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold can only be charged at up to 7.5W with other wireless chargers. The lack of support for the Pixel Stand is a bummer since the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the most expensive smartphone in the lineup.
