Keith David joins Jake Johnson in Dan Goor’s new comedy series cast
According to a recent report, the seasoned voice actor of Hazbin Hotel and Rick and Morty fame has now joined the cast of the Brooklyn Nine-Nine creator’s forthcoming series.
Per Deadline, the single-camera workplace comedy takes place in Los Angeles and revolves around the world of private detectives. The series will be led by New Girl star Jake Johnson, who takes on the mantle of Mickey Wilder. His character is an ex-LAPD cop who transitions into the private investigation sector after leaving the police force.
Meanwhile, Keith David has been cast in the Brooklyn Nine-Nine creator’s new series as Mickey’s boss, Garner Taggert. In the show, his character runs the Garner Taggart PI Agency, where his son Mitch and Mickey serve as the primary investigators. Taggart comes in as an old-fashioned, tough guy whose views have yet to receive a modern-day update.
Dan Goor will be developing the NBC comedy along with Brooklyn Nine-Nine executive producer Luke Del Tredici. Moreover, Akiva Schaffer, who famously helmed the Liam Neeson-led The Naked Gun, will be assuming directorial responsibilities for the pilot episode.
Schaffer will also executive produce the untitled workplace comedy. Additionally, Goor and Del Tredici will serve as writers as well as executive producers on the show. Universal Television is the studio.
Notably, new addition Keith David has earned worldwide acclaim for his voice acting, even winning three Emmys for his stints in Jackie Robinson, The War, and Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson. The 69-year-old actor also has much experience in live-action, having featured in movies such as The Thing, Armageddon, Requiem for a Dream, Pitch Black, Crash, The Nice Guys, and more.
