Bridge work continues to impact interstate traffic this week

Officials from the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) released information on various lane closures and updates due to ongoing projects:

Monday, August 19

Expect various lane closures on eastbound I-40 over Tyler Street and Harrison Street for continued bridge work. The work is expected to be completed by Wednesday, Aug. 21. During this time, the Washington Street to eastbound I-40 entrance ramp will be closed.

Expect various lane closures on eastbound I-40 at BNSF Railyard as crews perform bridgework. The work is expected to be completed by Friday, Aug. 30. The following entrance ramps will be closed intermittently during this time:

Expect various lane closures on westbound I-40 at BNSF Railyard to Harrison Street for continued bridgework. The work is expected to be completed by Friday, August 30. The following ramps will be closed intermittently during this time:

  • Westbound I-40 to northbound US 287 exit ramp

  • Westbound I-40 to southbound I-27 exit ramp

  • Southbound US 287 to westbound I-40 entrance ramp

The Crockett Street bridge on I-40 will be down to one lane in both directions due to paving operations. The work is expected to be completed by Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Expect various lane closures in both directions of I-40 and Airport Boulevard for fence installation on the east bridge rail. The work is expected to be completed by Thursday, Aug. 22.

Tuesday, August 20

Westbound I-40 at the Hope Road bridge will be closed due to bridge demolition. Following the westbound completion, crews will switch over to eastbound I-40 to finish the demolition; requiring those lanes to be closed. The demolition is expected to be completed by mid-September. The Hope Road bridge is expected to be closed for six months as crews rebuild the bridge. Message boards and signs will be out on the roadways to inform drivers about detour details.

On Monday, Aug. 12, crews began replacing the Hope Road bridge on I-40, just west of Amarillo. The project is expected to take six months. Wednesday, August 21

Buchanan Street will be closed from Southeast Third Avenue to Northeast Third Avenue due to railroad work. The work is expected to be completed by the end of August.
