A strategic bridge project connecting two technology parks on either side of the boundary between Hong Kong and Shenzhen has been launched and will facilitate cross-border integration, according to the city leader.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu was upbeat at the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong side of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone in Lok Ma Chau Loop on Monday.
“This project will open up the transportation network of the Hetao Cooperation Zone, effectively promoting the cross-boundary flow of personnel and leveraging the advantages of innovative policies in Shenzhen-Hong Kong port facilities and management,” he said.
“The bridge adopts a ‘single-span’ architectural design to cross the river, serving as a landmark symbol for the ‘one zone, two parks’ vision, connecting the Greater Bay Area’s innovation pulse.”
The bridge is one of two cross-boundary corridors over the Shenzhen River that link the technology parks.
The launch was witnessed by Xu Qifang, the No 2 official at the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office that oversees the cities’ affairs. Also at the ceremony were the director of Beijing’s liaison office in Hong Kong, Zhou Ji, and Shenzhen’s vice mayor, Luo Huanghao.
