The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen wasn’t the only one who got a second life in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 5. Two long-gone characters made their return through flashbacks, and fans on X (formerly Twitter) responded with their reactions.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 5, titled “The Grand Design,” brings back fan-favorite characters through flashbacks. The episode features the return of Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and James Wesley (Toby Leonard Moore). Both characters play pivotal roles in the episode’s parallel past-and-present narrative structure.

Fans on X expressed excitement over seeing Foggy and Wesley back on screen together. One user wrote, “Foggy and Wesley on my screen.” Another user shared their anticipation ahead of the episode’s release with repeated enthusiasm about Foggy’s return.

The episode uses flashbacks to explore the early days of Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson’s legal partnership. Their past disagreement over a client’s fate mirrors Daredevil’s present dilemma with Bullseye (Wilson Bethel).

One fan highlighted this connection, posting, “LOVE how Matt and Foggy’s argument in the past about condemning a man to death in prison or allowing him a chance at redemption mirrors Matt’s dilemma with Bullseye in the present.”

Wesley’s flashback scenes reveal his role in recruiting Buck Cashman (Arty Froushan) into Fisk’s operation. The revelation recontextualizes Buck’s loyalty to the Kingpin and his role in the present timeline. One user reacted to this backstory, writing, “The fact that Wesley essentially knighted Buck means that I have no option other than to glaze Buck from this moment on.”

Another fan celebrated the on-screen pairing of Wesley and Buck, calling it “the most important crossover to ever happen.”

The episode also features the return of Vanessa Fisk (Ayelet Zurer), whose storyline reaches a tragic conclusion. “The Grand Design” streams now on Disney+.
