It has taken a little while to get revved up, but Leroy Sané is firing on all cylinders for Süper Lig club Galatasaray — and back to scoring goals in the German men’s national team, too.
The former Bayern Munich winger shared his thoughts recently on adapting from the German Bundesliga to Turkey’s top flight — where he is playing alongside the likes of Victor Osimhen and İlkay Gündoğan.
“I was very pleasantly surprised by the physicality of the game,” Sané said in November comments captured by Sky Germany. “The league is tough, direct, fast, and many teams rely on counter-attacks. Everyone tries to create chances – the games aren’t as easy as they might seem from the outside. The quality is by no means as low as some claim.
“Of course, I still need to get to know the league better; I haven’t played against all the teams yet. But so far, it’s been a lot of fun. It’s a good challenge, and I’m looking forward to the upcoming matches.”
Sané has six goals and five assists in all competitions for the Turkish league leaders this season. Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has called on the 29-year-old to up his game in Türkiye in order to make it to the 2026 Men’s World Cup, and so far, Sané appears to be delivering.
