Secretary for Education Choi Yuk-lin today said the Education Bureau will launch the Greater Bay Area Career Exploration Tours from this school year to deepen senior secondary students’ understanding on the bay area.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the bureau’s Life Planning Education Conference held in person and online in parallel today, Ms Choi said the tours will enable senior secondary students to visit the bay area and understand the needs for talent in various industries, Hong Kong enterprises’ development in the bay area and the collaboration among enterprises in the two places.
Themed “Equipping Young Talents – Welcoming Future Opportunities”, the conference attracted about 1,000 local and Mainland education practitioners and representatives of the Business-School Partnership Programme’s (BSPP) partner organisations, where they exchanged experiences and enhanced their professional capacity in life planning education.
Ms Choi also highlighted that the Government has all along been attaching great importance to young people’s development. It actively supports Hong Kong’s overall development direction and grasps the immense opportunities brought by the country’s development as well as nurtures a generation of young people from the perspective of the bigger picture.
In the 2022-23 school year, the bureau launched the BSPP 2.0 with more business partners, covering a larger and wider range of industries including emerging industries. It also collaborated with business sectors, government departments and community organisations to provide students with a wide range of career exploration activities.
At the same time, the business partners organised more than 370 activities and offered about 1,500 work experience places under the Holiday Work Experience Programmes.
The conference comprised keynote speeches and sharing sessions, where education practitioners, professionals and scholars exchanged views on the trends of the working world, in addition to the qualities and skills required to enter emerging industries.
Through the activities, the practitioners enhanced their professional capacity to better assist students in realising their aspiration on future studies and careers, and planning for the future.
