Barça to face Atlético Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final

The 2025/26 season is reaching its conclusion and the 2026/27 campaign is also beginning to take shape. Barça claimed the La Liga title on Sunday thanks to their win in the Clásico against Real Madrid and so they now know that they will face Atlético Madrid in the semi-finals of the 2027 edition of the Spanish Super Cup.

Diego Simeone’s team booked their place in the competition by reaching the final of the Copa del Rey. After losing on penalties to Real Sociedad in that game, Atlético as runners-up face the league champions Barça in the semi-finals.

The other semi-final is not yet decided but in all probability it will be between Copa del Rey champions Real Sociedad and Real Madrid. Álvaro Arbeloa’s team need just a point from their remaining three fixtures in La Liga to second runners-up spot behind FC Barcelona for 2025/26.

Second time this decade

2027 will see Atlético and Barça meet for the second time in the semi-finals of the revamped competition. Los colchoneros reached the final in 2020 by beating the blaugranes 3-2 in the last four in the King Abdullah Stadium in Saudi Arabia.
