Atalanta vs. Bayern Munich Champions League preview: Team news and predicted lineups

After eliminating Borussia Dortmund from the Champions League knockout phase play-off round with a 4-3 aggregate win, Atalanta now face the next German challenge in the round of 16, welcoming Bayern Munich to the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d’Italia in Bergamo on Tuesday.

Atalanta have struggled in the build-up to the clash, failing to win any of their three games since the Dortmund victory, losing one and drawing two. Most recently, Raffaele Palladino’s side trailed 0-2 at home to Udinese before Gianluca Scamacca scored twice to salvage a 2-2 draw.

Bayern, by contrast, are on an eight-game unbeaten streak following their shock 1-2 defeat to Augsburg on January 24, winning seven of those matches.

After a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Dortmund put the Bavarians 11 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, Vincent Kompany rested several key players for Friday’s comfortable 4-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Team news and predicted lineups:

Atalanta are expected to be without Giorgio Scalvini, Ederson, Giacomo Raspadori, and Charles De Ketelaere, who are all nursing injuries.

Bayern Munich will be without captain Manuel Neuer, with Jonas Urbig set to deputise in goal after the 39-year-old suffered an injury setback.

Hiroki Ito (muscular) is also expected to miss out, while Alphonso Davies (muscular) has expressed hope of returning for the game in Italy.

Last but not least, Bayern are sweating over the fitness of star striker Harry Kane, who missed the win over Gladbach due to a calf knock.
