Aston Villa show interest in Borussia Mönchengladbach keeper Moritz Nicolas

Sky Germany reports that Aston Villa are interested in acquiring Borussia Mönchengladbach keeper Moritz Nicolas. The current Gladbach No. 1 could serve as a potential replacement for Villa’s Emilio Martinez. After reclaiming his starting role in training camp, Nicolas has started all 15 competitive fixtures for the foals thus far this year.

Unhappy with his current role as a back-up, former BMG captain Jonas Omlin is also expected to depart the club in the summer. Omlin very nearly headed to the Premier League on loan this summer. Even if both goalkeepers depart, the Bundesliga club maintains plenty of options. At least two other players could step up to take Nicolas’ place.

Prospect Jan Olschowsky is currently out accruing valuable experience during his second stint out on loan with Alemannia Aachen. Despite being only 19-years-of-age, Luxembourg national team keeper Tiago Pereira Cardoso already has five Bundesliga appearances under his belt when injuries forced him into action last season.

The currently 28-year-old Nicolas – who has 59 Bundesliga appearances to his credit – is presently valued at €5m. The Gladbeck-native last extended his contract in March 2024 and is tied to Gladbach through 2029.
