Drop Dead Diva begins streaming on Prime Video this month
Drop Dead Diva Seasons 1-6 will stream on Prime Video starting from Wednesday, March 25, 2026, according to Amazon.
The show centers on Deb Dobkins, an aspiring model who dies in a car accident. But she ends up pressing the “return” button at the gate of Heaven and is sent back to Earth. To her horror, her soul lands in the body of Jane Bingum, a brilliant but plus-size lawyer who had just died.
Now, Deb must adjust to life in a very different body and career. She is guided by her guardian angel, Fred, who is sent to Earth as punishment for allowing Deb to press the button. Later in the story, Jane’s soul also returns to Earth in a different person’s body.
Drop Dead Diva’s cast includes Brooke Elliott as Jane, Margaret Cho as Teri, April Bowlby as Stacy, Kate Levering as Kim, Jackson Hurst as Grayson, and Josh Stamberg as Jay, among others.
The series ran for six seasons, totaling 78 episodes. It premiered in July 2009 on the Lifetime cable network. The show received a favorable reception and rating, peaking at 2.76 million viewers for the Season 4 finale (via USA Today).
Despite the success, Lifetime cancelled the show due to budget constraints. This reportedly sparked a campaign from the fans to reinstate the show. It returned after some time and went on to run for two more seasons, airing its finale, “It Had to Be You,” in June 2014.
Drop Dead Diva has a solid 7.5/10 score on IMDb. Further, it has an average Tomatometer score of 78% and a Popcornmeter score of 62% on Rotten Tomatoes.
