NBC recently tapped David Boreanaz to headline a pilot, and his Bones co-star has now been cast in another show. According to a new report, the network has found its lead for another developing crime-drama pilot. The actress in question notably played Temperance Brennan opposite Boreanaz’s Seeley Booth in the Fox police procedural comedy-drama.
Emily Deschanel to star in new NBC crime-drama pilot
Emily Deschanel has reportedly been cast as the lead in a new untitled NBC crime drama pilot. Dean Georgaris and Davis Entertainment president John Fox will script the pilot. The former executive-produced and wrote episodes of The Brave. Meanwhile, the latter’s credits include movies and television shows like The Blacklist and Song Sung Blue.
The move sees both Deschanel and David Boreanaz, starring in The Rockford Files reboot pilot, appear on the prime-time schedule.
Besides scripting the pilot, the pair will also executive produce it alongside John Davis. In addition to starring in the pilot, Deschanel serves as producer. Universal Studio Group is the studio behind the pilot.
The project is based on Dr. Ann Burgess’s work. An expert profiler and author, she is the subject of Hulu’s documentary series, Mastermind: To Think Like a Killer. Notably, Burgess serves as a consulting producer on the pilot.
Deschanel will essay Professor Georgia Ryan in the pilot. The character is a psychologist who foregoes traditional investigative methods in criminology by placing focus on the victim instead of just the perpetrator to uncover clues that traditional methods leave behind. In addition, Ryan and her investigative team work with the FBI “to solve the most baffling and elusive cases.”
Aside from the NBC pilot, Deschanel has the film Monkey Bread in the pipeline. Her most recent film and television credits include the coming-of-age comedy movie Big Boys, the romantic sci-fi drama film ReEntry, and the Netflix suspense thriller miniseries, Devil in Ohio.
