Shareholders in Blue Lagoon hf. have formally approved a public share offering and an application to list the company’s shares on the Main Market of Nasdaq Iceland. The offering and listing are planned for November.
At the same meeting, held today, shareholders also approved a stock option plan for all permanent employees of the group.
In a press release, the company said its operations had grown significantly in recent years and described the listing as a major milestone in its history. It said the move would strengthen and broaden its shareholder base, giving the public, institutional investors and employees the chance to own a stake in one of Iceland’s best-known companies.
The option plan covers all permanent staff of Blue Lagoon hf. and of subsidiaries in which it holds more than 90 percent, around 700 people in total. Each participant will be entitled to buy shares worth up to $12,300 (ISK 1.5 million) once a year for five years, from 2028 to 2032, for a total of up to $61,600 (ISK 7.5 million).
The company says the aim is to retain and attract outstanding employees and give them a share in its success. The plan has been drawn up in accordance with Article 10 of the Icelandic Income Tax Act and will be submitted to the tax authorities for approval before option agreements are signed with staff.
“Our staff are the people who create the unique experience and the unique products our customers around the world know,” said Hildur Þórisdóttir, the company’s head of human resources. “It matters a great deal to us that, as the company takes this step onto the market, all permanent employees can take part in the growth ahead.”
