BILD reported on Thursday of a rift between Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Albert Riera and forward Jonathan Burkardt, leading to the Spaniard unleashing a rant at Friday’s press conference ahead of their Bundesliga game against Hamburg.
Riera was reportedly unhappy with Burkardt’s body fat percentage which resulted in a conversation with Jan Fießer, which irritated the German forward. As a result, Burkardt sought advice from his agent, who spoke with Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche who then spoke to Riera himself to assess the situation.
As reported by BILD, Riera then snapped at Burkardt as he walked past, accusing the 26-year-old of being the reason Krösche had a ‘serious talk with him.
When asked about the issue, Riera said it’s “total bull****,” adding: “Do you think I have a communication problem with my players? Do you really think that?”
“This is not a bar or a circus; it’s a very serious, professional football club.
“Our loyal fans, who love this club, deserve to know the truth – I will not accept lies. There’s nothing bad, it’s just not true. I am protecting my players, it’s a young group.”
