Lanterns Release Date Set for Anticipated DCU Show

A release date for Lanterns has been announced.

Lanterns is the upcoming TV show from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television. Created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, the HBO series will see Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre play Green Lantern characters Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

When is Lanterns’ release date?

It was previously known that DC‘s Lanterns would premiere on HBO Max this coming August. Now, an exact date has been announced. Per Discussing Film, Lanterns will officially premiere on August 16, 2026.

The official logline reads, “The series follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”

In addition to Chandler and Pierre, Lanterns will see Nathan Fillion reprise his role as Green Lantern Guy Gardner, who made his DCU debut in 2025’s Superman. The cast further includes Kelly Macdonald as Kerry, Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, Poorna Jagannathan as Zoe, Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, Nicole Ari Parker as Bernadette Stewart, Jason Ritter as Billy Macon, Sherman Augustus as John Stewart Sr., and Paul Ben-Victor as Antaan, among others.

Mundy serves as the showrunner for Lanterns. The premiere episode is co-written by Mundy, Lindelof, and King, while James Hawes directs. Hawes also directs the second episode of the show; other episodes are being directed by Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov. Mundy, Lindelof, King, Hawes, James Gunn, Peter Safran, and Ron Schmidt all serve as executive producers.

Mundy said, via Warner Bros. Discovery, when production on Lanterns officially began in February 2025, “From the start, our driving force has been to deliver a layered drama – rooted in nuanced storytelling and rich world building – that balances tension and mystery with honest, authentic emotion. The goal is to create something that feels timeless and grounded without sacrificing the magic of the source material.”
