Why Fans Love Michael Jackson Movie Despite Harsh Critic Reviews

The Michael Jackson movie is out in theaters now, and despite critical reviews largely being negative around the project, the fan sentiment around it only continues to grow.

The movie also seems primed to be a massive success at the box office, and with the movie also garnering a massively popular cinema score, fans have begun expressing why they’re so entertained by the movie while some critics might not be.

Why do fans love the Michael Jackson movie?

On Rotten Tomatoes, Michael has settled at a 39% critic score, a surprising low over 180+ reviews. On the flipside, though, the film has an outstanding 96% audience score, creating a drastic divide that has left many fans not believing (or caring) what the critical reviews of the film have to say.

Likewise, the movie scored an ‘A-‘ Cinema Score grade, a high mark for any film, and one that shows that audiences are loving the movie regardless of any bad reviews. As for why, some of the audience reviews on the Rotten Tomatoes page for the film highlight what might be causing the huge divide.

The large consensus across most of the fan reactions to the movie on Rotten Tomatoes is that, simply put, audiences just believed the movie was a good time. Mostly every positive reaction note the “nostalgic” factor of the movie, and getting to relive some of Jackson’s most iconic songs was a huge draw for them.

Similarly, many of the fan reactions to the movie likened it to a “concert,” and seemed to be interested solely in getting the chance to hear some of the pop legend’s most iconic tracks again. Comic book creator Rob Liefeld (best known for creating Deadpool and Cable) echoed many of these sentiments in a post on the movie, calling it “crowd pleaser the movie,” and noting how fun the movie was to watch with an audience.

While critics of the movie largely questioned why the film felt like it more or less glossed over several important parts of Jackson’s life, fan reactions show that, that isn’t exactly what they cared about or wanted from a movie about Jackson. In the end, the movie will undoubtedly be a massive success, and may go down as one of the most successful music biopics of all time, largely due to audiences loving the film regardless of any bad reviews.
