Star Wars Unveils Luke Skywalker & Boba Fett’s In-Canon First Meeting

Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett fought each other in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, during the former’s attempts to rescue Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt. The Jedi’s confrontation with the masked bounty hunter ended with Fett, who was protecting Jabba alongside the latter’s henchmen, falling into the Sarlacc pit. However, it seems they have crossed paths before. A new comic detailing their first canonical official meeting is hitting store shelves soon.

Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett meet in upcoming Star Wars comic book

Marvel is releasing a new Star Wars comic, written by Ethan Sacks, scribe of the original Galaxy’s Edge tie-in comic book, and illustrated by Jethro Morales and Roi Mercado, with Phil Noto behind the cover art. Titled Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Echoes of the Empire, it sees Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, C-3PO, R2-D2, and Chewbacca travel to Batuu to gain information about the location of Jabba the Hutt’s palace to rescue Han Solo (via CBR). Meanwhile, Darth Vader continues his search for his son, Luke.

After arriving, Luke gets a Force vision and splits from the others. Realizing someone is tracking him, he turns around and sees Boba Fett. The latter informs the former about the Galactic Empire’s bounty on his head, but expresses his willingness to take out Luke for free. The Jedi Knight responds by revealing his familiarity with Fett and what he did to Solo.

This meeting seemingly retcons established canon. This is because an earlier comic, released in 2015, chronicled Luke and Fett’s first interaction following the events of A New Hope.

In Star Wars Issues #5 and #6, Luke goes to Obi-Wan “Ben” Kenobi’s abandoned house in Tatooine in search of some answers. Meanwhile, Fett tries to get intel on the young Jedi through Mos Eisley locals.

Later, while Luke goes through various things in the house, Fett ambushes him, throwing a flash grenade and knocking him out. The pair subsequently engages in an intense fight that concludes with Fett’s defeat and Luke’s escape.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge – Echoes of the Empire will be published next week on April 22.
