Real Madrid is still smarting from its 1-1 draw with Girona on Friday, but it was not just psychological damage that was inflicted on Los Blancos.
Superstar attacker Kylian Mbappé was hit with an elbow to his head and suffered a laceration above his right eyebrow. As such, the Frenchman missed training on Sunday (as captured by Get Spanish Football News):
Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé played no part in group training alongside the rest of the club’s squad on Sunday. This comes owing to ongoing discomfort stemming from developments in Los Blancos’ latest outing.
The aforementioned Mbappé featured from the off in the fixture, but was heavily criticised for the level of his disappointing performance. Not only that, but en route to an eventual 1-1 draw, the Frenchman suffered a physical setback. After feeling the force of an elbow in the face in the Girona penalty area, Mbappé went to ground in evident discomfort, with blood streaming from his brow.
While this should probably not cause Mbappé to miss the Champions League match vs Bayern Munich on Wednesday, it is noteworthy given the implications of a head injury in the modern game.
