As artificial intelligence (AI) adoption accelerates worldwide, Hong Kong is sharpening its focus on applying AI technologies across various domains to make life easier, more efficient and more connected for citizens and businesses alike.  Building on Hong Kong’s smart city strategy and its role within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), the Government and local industry are working together to turn pilot projects into practical AI-driven solutions that support long-term economic growth and innovation.

Under the theme “AI+HK”, the Smart Hong Kong Pavilion at the InnoEX 2026 to be held from 13 to 16 April will show how AI is being integrated into the core functions that keep a modern city running.  Organised by the Digital Policy Office (DPO), the large-scale Pavilion will feature over 100 innovation and technology (I&T) solutions, including contributions from over 20 government departments and public organisations, as well as winning entries from the “Hong Kong ICT Awards”, the “’Maker in China’ SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Contest – Hong Kong Chapter” and the “Open Data Hackathon” submitted by local innovators and students.  Together, these projects demonstrate how AI is moving beyond prototypes into real-world applications that can be scaled across sectors, creating new opportunities for collaboration, investment and industry growth.

Eight thematic zones clearly mapping AI’s impact

The Pavilion is organised into eight thematic zones: “AI+ Public Services”, “AI+ Medical Innovations”, “AI+ Everyday Experience”, “AI+ Robotics Innovations”, “AI+ Mobility Revolution”, “AI+ Safety and Security”, “AI+ Infrastructure Development”, and “AI+ Low-altitude Economy”, giving visitors an easy-to-follow view of how AI supports daily life and key city systems.  Each zone shows how AI can help address urban challenges, improve efficiency and quality of life, and inspire new ideas and business opportunities for industry players.

The DPO invites industry players to visit the Pavilion at the InnoEX 2026 to see these AI-enabled solutions first-hand, explore collaboration opportunities and help shape the next phase of Hong Kong’s smart city development.

“AI+ Public Services”: More convenient, people-centric government

Cross-boundary Public Services

The DPO presents its Cross-boundary Public Services initiative. Through a thematic website and self-service kiosks in nine Mainland cities of the Greater Bay Area and Macao, residents and enterprises can access more than 80 Hong Kong public services, from tax and personal documents to healthcare and tourism, reducing the need to travel to Hong Kong in person.

Smart Government Innovation LAB

The Smart Government Innovation LAB (Smart LAB) under the DPO is also a highlight at the Pavilion. The Smart LAB provides a platform to connect government departments with the I&T industry, helping departments leverage on I&T solutions from the industry with innovative measures for enhancing the quality and efficiency of public services. The Smart LAB arranges regular technology sharing and promotional activities to enhance understanding in I&T among staff of the government.

Remedix

Environmental monitoring is addressed through innovations such as Remedix, a portable biosensing platform from the Drainage Services Department. It enables rapid on-site detection of antibiotics in complex water bodies, offering a cost-effective alternative to laboratory analysis.

Integration of AI and Optical Fiber Technology for District Cooling System Plants
The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) presents the integration of AI and optical fiber technology for district cooling system plants. It analyses real-time operational big data through AI to predict cooling demand and optimise system control, and integrates fiber optic technology to monitor the health of underground pipes for preventive maintenance.

“AI+ Medical Innovations”: Enhancing healthcare and system efficiency

Proof of Concept: From AI Diagnosis to Automated Dental Charting

The Department of Health showcases a Proof-of-Concept project that applies AI to interpret dental X-ray images and seamlessly generate dental charts. This reduces the need for manual data labelling, thus freeing up valuable clinical time.

“AI+ Everyday Experience”: Smarter living in the city

“iAM Smart”

The DPO presents its “iAM Smart” one-stop personalised digital services platform. It has already accumulated over 4.3 million registrations and enables users to access over 1 400 government, public and private online services and government e-Forms. Its service scope covers many aspects of life, such as submitting applications for school admission, renewing vehicle licences, submitting tax return and medical services.

“AI+ Robotics Innovations”: Automation that augments the workforce

Autonomous Airfield Ground Lighting Cleaning And Inspection Robot

The “Autonomous Airfield Ground Lighting Cleaning And Inspection Robot”, jointly developed by the EMSD and the Guangdong Academy of Sciences Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing, with support from the Airport Authority Hong Kong, fully automates cleaning and maintenance of the Airfield Ground Lighting system at Hong Kong International Airport. It employs Real Time Kinematic precise positioning for autonomous navigation and integrates image analysis to detect runway light contours, enabling the robotic arm to spray high-pressure dry ice at optimal angles for rapid, effective cleaning.

Aquatic Machine Learning Vessel

Another exhibit, the Aquatic Machine Learning Vessel from the Environmental Protection Department, integrates advanced sensors and AI to monitor water pollution sources. Utilising mesh networking technology, it can be deployed in underground drainage systems and other hard-to-reach locations with reliable communication. It significantly enhances pollution monitoring and management capabilities in complex water environment.

“AI+ Mobility Revolution”: Smarter transport for a connected city

A Smart Planning Platform for Safe and Efficient Transportation of MiC Module

Showcased by the Transport Department (TD), the platform aims to enhance the road safety and efficiency of transporting Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) component by utilising point cloud data to accurately analyse driving safety at critical intersections (such as right-angle turns and roundabouts), and using algorithms to synthesise route risk factors and optimise transportation routes.

Intelligent Platform for Identification of Driving Risks Through Real-time Monitoring of Psychological Condition Instability and Behaviours for Drivers

The TD exhibits an assessment system for identifying risky driving behaviors through brainwave matching with drivers’ psychological and physiological indicators. The research findings can identify early signs of driving risks in advance and alert the driver immediately, thereby enhancing driving safety.

“AI+ Safety and Security”: Strengthening digital and physical resilience

Scameter

Public safety is another key focus. The Hong Kong Police Force presents an upgraded version of Scameter, now equipped with an AI-powered analysis engine capable of processing suspicious phone numbers, URLs and messages. The system strengthens the detection of emerging scam trends and delivers proactive digital protection for members of the public.

“AI+ Infrastructure Development”: Data-driven, sustainable assets

MiTech – BIM-SAFD and MiC-Trio

“MiC Trio” system, jointly developed by the Housing Authority (HA) and the iLab of the University of Hong Kong, integrates AI, big data analytics and Internet of Things for smart inspection, cross-border logistics and installation monitoring to provide precise and efficient installation, transportation and installation management solution.

BIM-SAFD developed in-house by the HA can automatically generate multiple efficient pile foundation design schemes for engineers to evaluate through AI based on site and geological conditions, helping to determine the optimal pile size, location, and depth, thus reducing the repetitive calculation time and overall construction costs.
