Cristian Chivu tight-lipped on Alessandro Bastoni’s possible Barcelona move

Serie A league leaders Inter can lose Alessandro Bastoni in the summer as Barcelona prowl for the defender. Manager Cristian Chivu was asked about his future ahead of the Nerazzurri’s big game against Roma.

Bastoni hasn’t had a great 2026 by any means. He was the centre of controversy against Juventus and his performances have dropped since, with the media constantly at his back. He was sent off for Italy against Bosnia, playing a part in the Azzurri’s failure to qualify for the World Cup.

Chivu was asked about the defender and where his future lies. The Romanian remained tight-lipped but said he will give his all until his time at Inter.

He said – via CM: “I have to give him peace of mind and a clear idea of what to do on the pitch. I can’t talk about his future, but I know he’s very happy in this group and has always given 100% since he’s been here. It’ll be up to him to decide his future, but this applies to each of us in our professional lives.”

Chivu also said he will be very happy if Bastoni stays beyond the current campaign.

“But while he’s here, I’m sure he’ll give 100%, whether for a few months or another two years. I’d be happy if he stayed, but I’d also be happy to stay, given the uncertainty surrounding us coaches. Regardless, football will enjoy a great player.”

It has been suggested that Bastoni would be quite interested in a move to Barcelona, if they come forward. It will all depend on how much the Spanish side can afford to pay.
