2025-26 UEFA Women’s Champions League: Semi-final preview

Bayern Munich vs FC Barcelona

These two sides have had a fairly similar route to the last four, despite that shock meeting in the first game of the newly introduced league phase. Bayern travelled to the home of Barça, taking on the Spanish giants in a curtain-raiser that excited the masses. Instead, it turned into a humbling defeat for the German side, losing 7-1. They did not let it derail the pursuit of their first European title, impressively so, being one of the top four sides to automatically advance to the last eight, where they dispatched Manchester United 5-3 on aggregate. Barça, three-time winners of this competition, topped the league on goal difference and equally marched on to the quarter-finals, where a Women’s Clásico awaited. Such is the tale of this rivalry over the years, however, it was the Catalan side who eased past Real Madrid in a 12-2 rout on aggregate. While it’ll be the Spanish side coming into this tie as the undisputed favourites, Bayern have shown themselves to be formidable opponents. This will be their sixth UWCL meeting, a clash that has previously favoured Barcelona with four wins to Bayern’s one.
