Manchester City offer Rodri new deal to ward off Real Madrid

Manchester City have offered Rodri a new contract in a bid to ward off interest from Real Madrid.

Rodri’s current contact will enter its final 12 months in the summer and Real Madrid are interested in a deal to bring the midfielder back to La Liga.

The 29-year-old spoke about the prospect of a La Liga return last month and said he would be open to a transfer to the Bernabeu.

Speaking to Spanish radio station Onda Cero, Rodri said about La Liga: “I’d like to return, yes, obviously. he said on returning to Spanish football.

“For me, La Liga is where I started. I still follow it, it’s true not as much as before, but I still follow it.”

Though he added that he is happy in England, Rodri added specifically about the prospect of signing for Real Madrid as an ex-Atletico Madrid player: “No, I mean, there have been many players who have gone down that path, right? And especially not directly, but over time.

“I mean, for me, you can’t turn down the best clubs in the world. They have a fanbase that really goes all out for them, and for me, the Bernabeu is always incredible, a stadium that’s very imposing.”

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that City want Rodri to make a decision on his future soon and have tabled an extension offer. The Citizens will demand a big fee for the Ballon d’Or winner this summer if he turns down a new deal, or let him leave as a free agent in 2027.
