General Hospital’s Ryan Paevey, who plays Nathan West, recently opened up on why he returned to the show after his character died. Following a major revelation, the actor also hinted at what viewers can expect from his character in the coming weeks.
Here’s what the actor said.

Ryan Paevey says he returned to play Cassius Faison on General Hospital
Ryan Paevey returned to General Hospital last year and reprised his role as Nathan West. However, on Tuesday’s episode, Sidwell revealed that it wasn’t Nathan West, but Cassius Faison, Nathan’s younger brother. Given that they are twins, Cassius took Nathan’s identity and has been working with Sidwell since his return.
In a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, Paevey delved deep into the new character. “This was the role I came back to play,” he said about playing Cassius.
The Christmas At The Plaza star went on to recall that he asked writers whether he should “pepper a little bit of Cassius” in Nathan. But the writer asked him to just be Nathan, which the actor agreed to. But now that viewers know the truth, Paevey admits to playing both characters, since only a small group in the show knows his true identity.
The 41-year-old teased that the viewers will learn more about Cassius in the coming days. He also assured that his new character is not a “bad guy,” at least not like his father, Faison. Paevey hinted that “crazy stuff” will happen when his character will no longer have to pretend to be Nathan.
The Unleashing Mr. Darcy actor then explained that Nathan and Cassius are two very different people. He pointed out that while Nathan grew up with a family, Cassius didn’t have that luxury. So, by pretending to be Nathan, the younger brother gets the benefits of all of Nathan’s achievements, including being a PCPD detective. However, the actor added, “What I think he didn’t foresee was how nice it was to be liked, you know?”
Furthermore, given the growing bond with Nathan’s son, James, and a new romantic interest, Lulu, Paevey believes Cassius has people to worry about now. And to continue experiencing that, Cassius must try hard and keep the secret from getting out.
Despite the new challenges, Paevey said he enjoys the new character because it lets him do ‘something new.”
