No More Betting: Audi to Become Kit Sponsor of Premier League Team?

  • Betting Sponsor Ban: A Premier League ban on betting sponsors is coming into effect next season, pushing clubs to find new main sponsors.
  • Audi Sponsorship Interest: Several Premier League teams, including West Ham, are targeting Audi as a potential replacement for their betting sponsors, offering a potentially more aesthetically pleasing logo on their kits.
  • Sponsorless Kits Possible: If clubs cannot secure deals with new sponsors like Audi, there is a growing prospect of teams starting the new season with sponsorless kits.

With the Premier League front-of-shirt gambling ban finally coming into effect next season, clubs are desperately searching for new main sponsors. Now, a massive automotive brand could be set to enter the Premier League kit sphere: Audi.

According to a report by Daily Mail sports reporter Mike Keegan, several clubs are targeting the German car manufacturer to replace their betting sponsors.

Currently, 11 Premier League teams – including the likes of West Ham, andFulham – feature betting companies on the front of their shirts. With the new regulations kicking in, these clubs are finding it incredibly difficult to secure deals at the same financial level, with non-gambling brands reportedly offering less than half the money.

West Ham x Audi?

For football kit lovers, the betting ban is largely seen as a positive step. Betting logos often ruin the aesthetic of a shirt with clashing colors and clunky text. West Ham are reportedly one of the clubs actively targeting Audi.

The prospect of Audi’s iconic four-ring logo featuring on the front of a Premier League kit is highly exciting. From a purely design perspective, the Audi logo is minimalist, modern, and would be a massive aesthetic upgrade over almost any betting sponsor. Audi already has a rich history in football sponsorships, most notably as a long-time partner, sleeve sponsor, and shareholder of Bayern Munich.

Will We See More Sponsorless Kits?

If clubs cannot agree to terms with brands like Audi, we could see an unprecedented number of sponsorless kits next season.

While Chelsea made headlines (and pleased kit collectors) by starting recent campaigns with clean, sponsorless shirts, it is a nightmare scenario for club executives. If deals aren’t struck soon, the Daily Mail reports that the prospect of teams starting the new season with a blank space “continues to grow.”

The only Premier League team who already found a replacment for the betting sponsor are Bournemouth.

For fans who love the retro, sponsorless look, this might be the best season in years to buy a Premier League shirt.
