Seth Rogen’s $181 Million Superhero Movie Is Leaving Netflix

A 2023 animated movie featuring the voice of Seth Rogen is set to exit Netflix soon. The characters are based on Mirage Studios’ signature comic book series, which has since spawned tens of shows, films, video games, and other forms of media.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem exits Netflix in April

Netflix will delist Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem on Friday, April 17, 2026. It is an animated film based on characters created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman for Mirage Studios in 1984, and serves as a reboot to the franchise.

It centers on four mutated turtle brothers—Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo—and their sensei/adoptive father Splinter, a rat, as they hide from the humans in the New York sewers. After becoming teenagers, the four brothers use the skills they learned from Splinter to fight criminals despite his authorization. Soon, the brothers befriend journalist April O’Neil and fight against a notorious crime ring and other mutated villains.

The animated film features the voices of Seth Rogen, Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, Brady Noon, Ayo Edebiri, Giancarlo Esposito, Jackie Chan, Ice Cube, and Paul Rudd, among many others.

Jeff Rowe helmed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and co-wrote it with Rogen, Brendan O’Brien, and Evan Goldberg. Following the failure of the live-action films, the studio reportedly began working on a reboot of the franchise. After a suggestion from Playmates, the franchise’s toy manufacturer, the studio pivoted towards making an animated film. Subsequently, Rogen joined as a lead writer (via LA Times).

The idea proved to be a great decision, as the film received an overwhelmingly positive response from critics and the audience alike. It currently boasts an approval rating of over 90% on the review-aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. Furthermore, it had a global haul of more than $181 million, per Box Office Mojo.

Ahead of the animated film’s release on August 2, 2023, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies announced a sequel. Reportedly, the second installment will feature Shredder as the antagonist (via Collider). Alongside the films, the current TMNT universe also includes a short film, a television series, and a video game.
