Senator Mullin challenges Teamsters president to fight in 2023 hearing
Mullin has had some headline-making moments as a senator, perhaps none more viral than the time he challenged a witness in a Senate hearing to a fight.
The committee chairman Senator Rand Paul, a fellow Republican, just posted a video of an altercation in 2023, when Mullin was questioning Teamsters union President Sean O’Brien in a committee hearing.
Mullin brought up a tweet O’Brien had directed at him, saying “You know where to find me. Anyplace, Anytime cowboy.”
“So this is a time, this is a place,” Mullin said. “You wanna run your mouth, we can be two consenting adults. We can finish it here.”
‘“Okay, that’s fine,” O’Brien said. “Perfect.”
The two continued to goad each other until Mullin rose to his feet and looked like he might walk over to the witness. Then committee chair, Senator Bernie Sanders, chided him and told him to sit down.
“Sit down! You’re a United States senator, sit down,” shouted Sanders.
Mullin later defended his threat as a representation of “Oklahoma values”.
“You’re not going to run your mouth at me and expect me to sit there,” he told Fox News’ Sean Hannity. “And you should have seen the fear in his eyes when I stood up. I’m not joking.”
The two – O’Brien and Mullin – shook hands today before the hearing got started.
Just now, Mullin told Paul that since that confrontation the two men have become friends and talk regularly.
