Jamal Musiala has been one of the brightest stars in German football in the last few years. A wonderkid that come onto the scene under Hansi Flick’s time at Bayern Munich, Musiala has blossomed into a terrific player for both Die Roten and Die Mannschaft. Unfortunately, he has missed significant time since a serious injury last summer at the FIFA Club World Cup against Paris Saint-Germain.
Musiala has been exceptionally brilliant when called upon by the German national team, impressing at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and a great performance at EURO 2024, with other great matches throughout the following Nations League campaigns. Since then though, Musiala has been unavailable for Nagelsmann’s selection, and as a result, could be out of sync with the squad come this summer’s World Cup.
Sky Germany reports that Musiala is in doubt to be called up for the March friendlies against Switzerland and Ghana due to fitness concerns. If so, this would be a massive blow for Musiala and the national team. It has been a full year since Musiala has played for Germany, with his last appearance against Italy on March 23rd, 2025. The nation will need Musiala at his best in order to have a successful tournament, but on the other hand if he is hurt once more, he might not be available at the tournament whatsoever.
Perhaps Nagelsmann will opt to bring the 23-year-old to the camp in March simply to integrate him back in the squad and planning for the upcoming tournament. While Germany’s matches in March are simply for preparation at this point, it should be a good indicator whether or not Germany can compete with the best come June.
What do you think? Should Musiala just sit this one out and get right…or should be attend camp, even in a non-playing role?
