Adult Swim also released first-look images from the upcoming episodes while outlining details about the new installment. The official description states: “Rick and Morty is back, baby! Season Nine is all certified bangers. No AI slop! Just Grade A organic slop, made by real humans with real human traits like back hair and cysts.”

Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim, said the upcoming episodes continue the show’s creative momentum. He said, “I know it’s my job to say that this show just keeps topping itself, but it also has the benefit of being true.” Ouweleen added that the season features “great high-concept insanity with some of the best character writing ever done” (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Showrunner and executive producer Scott Marder previously addressed expectations for the season during a Reddit AMA. Marder said, “I would say Season 9 will convince everyone we’ve got a full tank of gas left in us.” He added that “The episode ideas are still REALLY flowing, and Rick still has plenty of mean left in him.”

Rick and Morty stars Ian Cardoni, Harry Belden, Sarah Chalke, Chris Parnell, and Spencer Grammer, and is executive produced by Dan Harmon and Scott Marder. The animated series will debut Season 9 in more than 170 countries and 42 languages. In the United States, episodes will be available to purchase from digital retailers the day after broadcast, while streaming availability begins August 31 in the U.S.
