Former WISN-TV meteorologist Lindsey Slater has hired a longtime attorney who specializes in non-compete contracts following her departure from Channel 12 late last month.
Robert Corris, Slater’s attorney, said March 11 that Slater wants out of her non-compete agreement and that she has a good case.
“It’s my opinion that she would be able to defeat the non-compete,” Corris said. “I feel confident.”
Corris declined to comment on the details of the agreement or if it just for the Milwaukee market. He said he was “hopeful that it never gets to litigation,” instead he wants to reach an agreement with WISN-TV.

Shawn Oswald, president and general manager at Channel 12, couldn’t be reached for comment on March 11.
Corris said, in general, he would advise clients that to file a lawsuit in two instances. The first being, if the client can’t get a job in the non-compete region. The other involves a complicated legal procedure that involves filing suit in another state.
When reached by email on March 11, Slater didn’t respond to questions on her departure from WISN-TV or what her plans are for the future.
She instead said, “Don’t worry. I’ll be back soon. Hang tight.”
Slater has been active on social media platform BlueSky, providing weather updates.
The Milwaukee Business Journal first reported the story. She told the outlet that she did want to debunk social media speculation that she was fired for political posts. She added she wanted to remain in meteorology.
Slater was the station’s early morning meteorologist since July 2019, when her predecessor Sally Severson reduced her schedule. She is a Milwaukee area native who joined Channel 12 in June 2016.
Prior to WISN-TV, Slater worked for WDBD-TV in Jackson, Mississippi, and served as an intern for WKOW-TV in Madison.
According to her LinkedIn, Slater attended undergraduate school at Carroll University in Waukesha and Mississippi State University. She has a master’s degree in crisis/emergency/disaster management from the Millersville University of Pennsylvania.
