Fans of Amazon Prime Video’s hit animated series Invincible have been eagerly waiting for news about potential spin-offs. With a vast universe of characters from Robert Kirkman‘s original comics, the question on everyone’s mind is: when will we see more Invincible spin-offs? Now, the creator has answered himself.
Robert Kirkman reveals why Invincible spin-offs haven’t happened
In an interview with The Direct, Kirkman opened up about the future of the franchise while promoting Invincible Season 4, which will release on Amazon Prime Video on March 18. When asked about potential spin-off projects following the Atom Eve special, the creator confirmed there’s interest but pointed to one major obstacle: time.
“Right now, we would certainly love to do more,” Kirkman stated. “There’s an expansive, vast world within Invincible but right now, we’re focused on getting the show out on a yearly basis and, again, just managing the enormity of this series is so daunting… It’s definitely keeping us busy,” he added.
The Atom Eve special originally served a specific purpose, aka bridging the frustrating gap between Seasons 1 and 2. Kirkman explained that the project helped “mitigate the time passing” and “win the audience back” after that long delay. Since then, the production team has been focused on maintaining a steady release schedule for the main series. “But you know, as time goes on, there’s certainly corners of this universe that we would love to explore more, and so, who knows what the future holds?” Kirkman shared.
Interestingly, the Invincible comic book universe has already expanded in print. Beyond the main series, readers have enjoyed spin-offs like Atom Eve & Rex Splode, The Pact, Brit, and Guarding the Globe. Last year in April, Kirkman confirmed that another comic spin-off, Battle Beast, had joined the lineup. It follows the fan-favorite character’s adventures between his appearances in Invincible.
With Invincible Season 4 on the horizon, Kirkman’s comments suggest fans will have to wait a bit longer for expanded projects. However, the potential remains enormous.
