General Hospital villains have become a hot topic among fans recently. Several fans of the ABC soap opera feel Sonny and Jason no longer have the tough presence that once defined them.
General Hospital fans think Sonny and Jason are losing their ‘gangster edge’
General Hospital fans recently began debating whether Sonny Corinthos and Jason Morgan still have the intimidating presence they once had. In recent storylines, Sonny has been struggling after someone tampered with his medication, which caused him to spiral for months.
Jason has begun considering leaving the mob life to protect his son Danny and has sometimes shielded others from Sonny. Meanwhile, the show has shifted focus to other characters. The online debate began when a post on the show’s official Facebook page asked fans about Jason and Sonny’s impact by comparing them with characters like Jenz Sidwell.
The page wrote, “I like Sidwell and am glad they are giving us strong villains again, the only problem I have is they’ve spent the last 12+ years weakening Sonny and Jason so it isn’t as fun to watch the dynamic because he is almost too powerful. While I know there was pushback on the mob era, GH has over corrected. We need Sonny and Jason acting like the Sonny and Jason we all fell in love with. And that’s with that gangster edge.”
Fans believe the characters should return to their tougher personalities. “Yes, the strong, no nonsense Sonny and Jason need to come back,” another fan wrote. “However, I find Sidwell creepy, he puts his hands together, leans in, and talks to everyone like they are beneath him. Plus no personal space.”
One fan added, “Yes Totally Agree Give Us Back The Old Sonny and Jason.” However, another fan disagreed and said they enjoy seeing a calmer side of the longtime characters. “Naaa, I don’t agree. As Jason and Sonny have gotten older, I’m enjoying this softer side of both of them.”
The discussion shows how passionate fans remain about Sonny and Jason, as well as their long history on General Hospital.
